Guess what this is?

Hi!

I got out my macro lens and had so much fun.  Guess what this is?

Hint.  It is from a tree.  It is on the trees now or falling from the trees - this time of year.
Hint.  This tree is growing in Texas and I found it growing out of a roof of a pizza restaurant in Ft. Davis, Texas.

Write me your guesses!

Guess what this is?

  1. Osage orange, hedge apple, aka Maclura pomifera. I've seen quite a few of these fruits on (or rather, under) trees this year.

  3. It is believed that they were once more common and the large mammals that helped spread them went extinct. They have one of the hardest woods that burns very hot in a fireplace. There are a few specimens in the Northeast (planted). Smell just like an orange. Not really edible by humans though.
