October 26 - The Black Walnut - Juglans nigra

The Black Walnut has been used for centuries as food and medicine.  The Walnuts are falling to the earth this time of year,  I see people everyday picking them off the ground to eat and to collect  to sell.  Many herbal companies as well as nut companies seek the walnuts this time of year.  It is a bit of a challenge to get to the meat inside.  I was doing this a week ago and my hands were dyed brown.  The stain is still on my skin.  It was worth it.  These nuts are delicious and so very good for you.  May you all find a Walnut tree to go sit under and enjoy your day.
