June 8 - Northern Red Oak - Quercus rubra

Quercus rubra, The Northern Red Oak

This is a drawing from my journal of the Northern Red Oak leaf in early summer. The leaves of this tree have small bristle tips at the end of each leaf tip.  There are 8-12 lobes that are deep enough to go halfway to the middle of the leaf.

The Northern Red Oak can live to be up to 500 years old and can grow up to 100+ feet tall.
