April 20 - The Black Cherry Tree - Prunus serotina

Black Cherry

The Black Cherry tree is already covered in new green leaves. The tree looks so vibrant today in the late afternoon sunshine.

What I learned about the Black Cherry today:
The leaves are finely serrated.
The leaves are simple and alternate.
The twigs are reddish brown. They are said to have a bitter almond taste; though, I did not taste them to find out.
This tree can grow up to 100 feet.
