March 3 - The Carolina Hemlock - Tsuga caroliniana

The Carolina Hemlock

The Carolina Hemlock
This tree lives at the Asheville Botanical Gardens.  www.ashevillebotanicalgardens.org

The Carolina Hemlock

The Carolina Hemlock splays her needles all around the twig; this is the way to distinguish it from the Eastern Hemlock, which lays his needles flat on top, like a blanket.

  1. Rebecca, I love your blog. I'm very impressed with your photos and all the information. We have someone here in the Triangle who leads tree camps on Saturdays. His name is Dave Owens and the website is treecamp.org.
I also work with trees, check out Silvansong.com :)
    Thanks,
    Laurel
