May 3 - The Fig Tree - Ficus carica

May 3 - The Fig Tree

The fig tree leaves are bright green, alternate, simple and rather large. They are deeply lobed with 1 - 5 sinuses. They have rough hairs on the upper part of the leaf and soft hairs on the underside of the leaf.

The fig tree in this photo lives in my yard. We planted it two years ago. It was very slow to grow, so I talk to the fig tree now. I think the visits are helping, for the leaves are quite beautiful this year.

I have a new friend in Asheville, Heather Rayburn, with a beautiful fig tree in her yard. She said I could come over and take pictures. I will go over and take some photos to post in my August Fig Tree post. So check back in August to see the beautiful fig tree. With that tree in her yard.

"A tree is a wonderful living organism which gives shelter, food,
warmth and protection to all living things. It even gives shade to
those who wield an axe to cut it down." – Buddha.
