April 7 - Shagbark Hickory - Carya ovata

April 7 - The Shagbark Hickory

You can id this tree by the shaggy bark and distinctive leaves. The leaves are pinnately compound with five leaves that have teeth. This picture was taken by me today while I was visiting my mom in Cookeville, Tennessee. Today is May 20th. I could not find this tree in April before the leaves came out. Now, with the leaves, I got it. I just had to take a walk by the creek. I did get stopped by a rain storm and then by my batteries did not work. However, later, after the rain, I went back and found the Shagbark Hickory.
