April 30 - Weeping Cherry -Prunus subhirtella

Flower by C. Tucker, via Wikipedia

Weeping Cherry
"Be a gentle friend to trees and they will give you back beauty, cool and fragrant shade, and many birds, singing".....writer, unknown

The Weeping Cherry Tree is a dramatic flowering tree. This tree is a native of Japan. The people of Japan gave to America, as a gift of friendship, the weeping cherry tree in 1912. 3,020 cherry trees were eventually shipped to America from Japan that same year and planted in Washington DC. They, and their off springs, are thriving; the cherry blossom festival is celebrated in Washington DC each spring usually at the beginning of April.

Weeping cherry trees have long, graceful branches that flow like a weeping willow. In the spring, the Weeping Cherry tree is covered in white or pale-pink blossoms before the leaves appear. The bark is smooth and colored brown.

Go outside and look at the spring beauty unfolding all around you. If you happen to be surrounded by concrete and brick, make it a point to seek out nature. You will be rewarded more than I can express in words.
